2025 Program and Highlights

Flower Moon
A man living at the foot of Mount Hiko in Kyushu becomes a traveling monk and visits Kiyomizu-dera Temple in search of his missing son. He asks a man who happens to be standing at the temple gate for guidance, and summons a spirit named Kagetsu. The boy sings a short song, aims a bow and arrow at a nightingale, and recounts the temple's history. The traveling monk, watching Kagetsu, realizes that the boy is his son, and performs a dance depicting how the boy was kidnapped by a tengu and traveled through the mountains. They rejoice at their reunion, and then set off together to continue their Buddhist training. Please enjoy this drama of a father-son reunion, full of artistic talent.

Mosquito Sumo
This is Moriyama Inn in Goshu (Shiga Prefecture). A provincial feudal lord has come out of nowhere. He dispatches his retainer, Taro Kaja, along the highway to recruit a newcomer who is skilled in sumo. The Kaja brings along a man of questionable appearance. When the lord tries wrestling with him, he is immediately thrown. This is no surprise, as the man turns out to be the spirit of a mosquito, a specialty of Moriyama Inn. How the lord repels the man will be a joy to watch.

Hagoromo (feathered robe)
One peaceful spring morning, after finishing his fishing trip, fisherman Hakuryu finds a beautiful robe hanging on a pine branch and tries to take it home as a family heirloom. Just then, the celestial maiden who owns the robe appears, lamenting that she cannot return to heaven without it, and begging him to return it to her...
Enjoy the sight of the heavenly maiden ascending to heaven while dancing beautifully in her feathered robe at the legendary site of Miho no Matsubara.
